Master Manipulator
For the past few years, I have wanted to create an online museum. Whether you are a writer who needs a creative nudge for your latest draft or an artist who wishes to explore other art forms, I wanted to curate a space for All Things Inspiration. My hope was that our online museum would be a place to sit, admire, and engage with the work of other creatives from around the world.
Most recently, I came across a warm image by surrealist, Shaylin Wallace. The photo was the silhouette of a person with flowers and butterflies “coloring” the inside of their bodies. It was as if a floral arrangement had been curated to represent the natural beauty of the subject.
What blew me away was that the quintessential pieces were designed by a college student. A college student! With her attention to detail, it was clear that Shaylin had been perfecting her craft long before she began her graphic design studies at Salisbury University.
Shaylin specializes in surrealistic photo-manipulation and editing. In surrealism, artwork goes outside what is rational and taps into unconsciousness. Think Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, or the works of the father of Surrealism, Andre Breton.
Throughout her work, Shaylin plays with space and landscapes. In Sunshine Swing, we see a person swinging in the clouds. In Bouquet Basking in the Bushes, a woman’s face is made up of a bouquet as she reclines in the bushes.
